RT @EUAgri: We will help EU farmers reduce pesticide use 👇 #EUGreenDeal
See our press release from yesterday:
https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_22_3746
We will support our farmers in this transition.
EU countries could use the Common Agricultural Policy funds to cover the costs of the new requirements for farmers for 5 years.
Banning pesticide use in parks, public gardens and protected areas means that citizens will have less contact with pesticides in their immediate environment.
This protects our health, especially that of the most vulnerable.
75% of global food crops depend on animal pollination.
Pesticides kill pollinators. Alternative methods of pest prevention need to be considered first. Pesticides may be used as a last resort measure.
A sustainable food system takes care of biodiversity.
#EUGreenDeal
Significantly reduce the use of chemical pesticides.
A major ask from citizens at the Conference on the #FutureOfEurope & in 2 European citizens’ initiatives with each over 1M signatures.
We listened and now we are acting.
@HispanoSwiss @TarakNL The initiative was started already beginning of the year where we asked the public for input and their opinions on the application of EU standards to imports:

@HispanoSwiss @TarakNL Important point you are raising indeed. And we are working on applying EU health and environmental standards to imported agri-food products.
RT @Food_EU: 🇪🇺 = 3rd largest agri-food importer
Using this weight, we want to promote health, environmental & animal welfare standards worldwide 🌎

@Paco_Cylinder That is why we are offering concrete financial help to farmers via Common Agricultural Policy (#CAP) to cover the costs of any requirements stemming from the new rules. See details in our Q&A:

@methylcytosine We're not proposing to prohibit chemical pesticides but to reduce their use & risk. We cannot wait 20 years. Biodiversity, on which all farming depends, is declining, we need to act now. Environmentally friendly pest control & low risk alternatives are the way forward.
@mekong1981 You got us there. That's not a good picture to illustrate. - But the point remains: There is no way around a shift towards a more sustainable food system, we need this #EUFarm2Fork Strategy.
