It's so depressing.
A nonsensical, superexpensive technology that receives billions of subsidies just... because of a combination of a strong lobby and an outdated ideology.
It won't go far, since luckily all this is economically unviable. But as you say, grifters grift and pockets will be filled with money that could be used for so much useful stuff.
