Doing something against child abuse is legitimate, spying and using mass surveillance techniques against your own citizens isn't legitimate at all, but deeply undemocratic and frightening. We claim to be better than China and the US but keep rushing to them

OK, please don't. Do not choose this terrible excuse to introduce mass surveillance and/or to exacerbate monopolies. A post on mastodon is useless I know, but this is not the Europe I hope for. Do not touch encryption, do not go into whatever mess is USA and China. Europe need to stay trustworthy.
