I would also suggest that the number of times air to air heat pumps are used in the UK for cooling would be far lower than they would be used in the winter for heating.
So the overall impact on energy use over the year would be to reduce consumption, when compared to traditional electric heating with no cooling in the summer.
Of course good insulation helps to keep buildings cool in the summer as long as the incoming sunlight and ventilation is carefully controlled.

Air to air heat pumps (commonly known as multi-split air conditioning) provide cooling in the summer and heating in the winter.
What most people get wrong is that they assume modern air conditioning is only for cooling.
WRONG, they work as heating in the winter and are just as efficient as heat pumps connected to radiators.
Plus new models can provide hot water, both in the summer and winter.
