Re @JohnSpringford I am surprised at the description of the Edwards saga as “not much of a story.” It dominated social and mainstream media for three days. Lee Anderson’s comments put the episode firmly in the context of the “culture wars” by which the government hopes to construct a GE victory.

Re @CliveWismayer @TheBonnyDoon Presumably the BBC thinks it should have investigated more effectively and expeditiously the original complaint. Hence the endless coverage of this overblown incident. The BBC hopes now to atone for its original lapse by hours of public self-flagellation.

Re @NicholasTyrone Like the Bourbons, the Brexiters have learned nothing and forgotten nothing.

Re @B1EMW @ACraigBennett @Telegraph @FrancisDearnley Many of its supporters thought Brexit was a poke in the eye for Germany that would bring the UK closer to the US. President Biden’s reported support for a German candidate to lead NATO rather than for Ben Wallace proves how spectacularly wrong-headed this analysis always was.

Re @ChillaxBcn @SeamusMurphy62 Rich people have enough money to mitigate the effects of Brexit. Poorer people do not. The well-known egalitarianism of The Telegraph demands however that all should suffer equally under Brexit. It’s a funny y old world.

Great to be invited onto Chris’s show today!
Nice chance to talk about some very important, yet straight forward matters ignored outside the mainstream media

In the new FedTrust video John Stevens and I discuss the maze without exit in which the Conservative Party finds itself. Labour should not be complacent however. In particular, they can and should be bolder on Europe. See fedtrust.co.uk/video-is-brexit

Re @APHClarkson @blairvhoran @briab_briar It is certainly a fantasy to imagine that the UK can play exclusively by its own rules. But by fully rejoining the EU the UK would become a major contributor to setting the rules by which it is bound. By rejoining SM/CU it will simply have to follow rules set by others.

Re @NicholasTyrone In our lates FedTrust video John Stevens and I argue that Sunak will be like John Major. He will limp on fatally wounded until the General Election while the squabbling vultures gather. See fedtrust.co.uk/video-is-brexit

Re @colinrtalbot @DianneBancroft In the latest Federal Trust video I argue that Sunak will probably survive until the next General Election. The Party however will continue to be terminally divided. See fedtrust.co.uk/video-is-brexit

Re @DavidHenigUK Good official and institutional structures can improve mediocre political strategies. They cannot however substantially compensate for insane political strategies like Brexit. They can at best mitigate the consequences of the mad underlying strategy.

Re @NicholasTyrone If a Conservative Prime Minister can seek confrontation with the Australian PM on a cricketing issue, we live in a world turned totally upside down. Nothing should surprise us any more.

Re @williamnhutton @FT It’s pretty cheeky of the EU to think it can put its own perceived interests ahead of the interests of others. They should copy the British government, which always acts in the general interest, even when the others don’t immediately realise it.

Re @David_K_Clark There is a lot of competition for the title “strangest Brexit fantasy.” My personal favourite is the narcissistic belief that the whole EU would collapse after Brexit. As someone once said, it would be difficult to express the opposite of the truth with greater exactitude.
