Yes! End of combustion engine has been voted in for 2035. Because of that EPP voted against the entire proposal. Together with ID. But of course, now EPP has no problems with that…. Good that the file is adopted. Congratulations @jhuitema

Effort sharing adopted. Deal as struck in ENVI maintained. No surprises. We now move to land-use change; a file where additional climate ambition can be achieved.

And the votes have started again. Voting first Effort Sharing Regulation, where climate reduction targets are set for Member States. Less controversial vote, will go smooth.

That was voting part 1. Quite some fireworks. Apologies for all the acronyms but voting and tweeting at the same time is quite challenging. At 17hrs we do part 2. Again fireworks to be expected there; mainly on CO2 standards for cars.

On aviation the ENVI deal stays: so outgoing flights from EU will fall under ETS, phase out of free allowances by 2025 and also non-CO2 effects of aviation need to be included in the pricing. Revenues will be invested in development of Sustainable Aviation Fuels.

Vote on Social Climate Fund is easier. Important that SMEs remain excluded. Final vote not taken to allow alignment with ETS. On CBAM no vote take, since we have the same issue on free allowances there. So ETS, Social Climate Fund and CBAM back to the ENVI committee.

So no majority for the deal on ETS. EPP lowers the deal with the help of ECR and ID. And in the end we and S&D don’t accept that weakening of the proposal. ECR and ID also still vote against, so no majority. This shows: you can’t build deals with ECR and ID, dear EPP.

So ETS is extended to maritime and commercial buildings and transport. Ambition level is slightly improved. But not good on free allowances; might even be challenged by WTO. Overall we cannot support this position of the Eur. Parliament.

Bad result: free allowances for sectors falling under carbon border adjustment mechanism extended until 2034.

Ambition level of ETS is changed. Commission had 61%, ENVI committee wanted it to 67%. Plenary lands in between: 63%

So far so good. We adopted extension of the emission trading system with maritime and incinerators (they will start paying for their CO2 emissions).

Climate change is still happening.
We are about to overshoot the 1.5 degrees target, which will hit the poorest the most if we don't act vigorously now. There is no social justice without climate justice.

That's at stake in tomorrow's vote on the climate package.
