@ajcdeane Would add that over the years I have prosecuted some people I have a degree of sympathy with. The young person who never had much chance in life before, choosing to do something bad. Humane prosecutors are important.

@ajcdeane These people are being a bit silly but there's an interesting philosophical debate to be had about whether the cab rank rule has any room whatsoever for conscientious objection.

I *think* it used to be the case one could decline to prosecute a capital case.

This is unbelievably embarrassing to watch. I don't know about the US, but it is not how we cross-examine in the UK.
RT @girlsreallyrule: This Gwyneth Paltrow testimony is like an SNL skit.

RT @timfarron: Britain is not being "swamped" by refugees. There are 19 European countries who take more refugees than we do.

But when Conservative MPs use this hysterical language it has consequences - it riles up the far right protestors who scream abuse at terrified people.

It must stop.

RT @timfarron: In the House of Commons, I challenged the Environment Minister as to why 70% of applications for bathing water status since January 2022 - including Coniston and the River Kent in the Lake District - have been rejected.

The minister's reply? "That's irrelevant"

RT @WellerMonica: Sir Ed Davey Liberal Democrats Leader at the Splash in Fetcham, Surrey, described river pollution as “the biggest environmental crime in our country today”. @MVLibDems @LibDems

Jimmy Saville was a huge Tory supporter and I don't remember the BBC saying he should pipe down or not be present Jim'll Fix It.

The slavery part of this is the worst.

Basically, if you are trafficked as a modern slave (I.e. you have no control over it) we won't recognise or protect you as a victim of slavery.

What would Wilberforce say?
RT @Conservatives: It’s very simple - it’s this country and government who should decide who comes here - not criminal gangs.

Our new laws show we will do what is necessary to achieve that.

RT @timfarron: @RishiSunak Shameful, sinister and stupid…. And it won’t work, so you’ll get the electoral panning you so thoroughly deserve for this wicked nonsense.

RT @EuropeElects: Estonia: the e-voting results of today's national parliamentary election were just counted.

Based on 92% of all the votes counted, it looks likely that liberal Kaja Kallas (R-RE) will remain Prime Minister and continue to represent Estonia in the European Council.

RT @sonyaphotoart: A leaked WhatsApp

My dad's last messages to me, while he was stuck in a care home and I was unable to visit.
My kids couldn't attend his funeral.
I have 8 kids, only 15 people allowed.
So while they partied and conducted affairs, I didn't get to say a last goodbye. RIP 19.5.20

How normal is it to see a wasp in the first week of March? Was in our house. I got it outside with some marmalade, as you can see.

Do you mean the courts decided you didn't have the evidence to prove your case?

Are you suggesting the courts should have taken account of an offence in the future?
RT @CPhilpOfficial: As Immigration Minister in Dec 2020 I tried to deport this dangerous criminal. But Labour MPs and various celebrities (including Naomi Campbell, Thandiwe Newton, Naomie Harris and David Olusoga) opposed the flight and most criminals were taken off
