I welcome the EU’s agreement on setting a price cap on Russian oil.

Crippling Russia's energy revenues is at the core of stopping Russia’s war machine.

I engaged personally in the negotiations as drying up Russian resources to wage war is an existential matter to us. 1/

Every dollar counts.

Every dollar negotiated down = ca $2 billions less for Russia.

Going from $65 per barrel to $60 = 10 billion dollars less for Russia to finance its genocidal war against Ukrainians. 2/

I'm glad partners agreed to our proposal to review the price in the future, with the aim of reducing Russian revenues even further.

As part of the compromise, we'll also move immediately ahead with the 9th package of EU sanctions. 3/

It's no secret we wanted the price to be lower.

Our experts estimate that a price between 30-40 dollars is what would substantially hurt Russia.

However, this is the best compromise we could get today.

We will have the first review of the price already in mid-January. 4/
