The Commission's criteria say buying a new fleet of planes is a ‘substantial contribution’ by #aviation to climate action.
This is 1) false and 2) dangerous. Why? 2/4

It means airlines can buy a whole fleet of new aircraft and call it #sustainable, while selling off their old and inefficient planes to other airlines.
It dupes consumers and diverts crucial investment away from actually sustainable transport. It's #greenwashing 3/4

Not all investments in aviation are bad. Investing in sustainable fuels (SAFs) or cleaning up jet fuel should be #taxonomy eligible.
@EU_Commission and @McGuinnessEU should stand up to the airline lobbies and demand more than the bare minimum. 4/4
