Despite devastating 🔥 across Europe, there was a huge display of #EUsolidarity. We mobilised all resources available.
Yet the trend is clear. We must improve prevention, preparedness and boost our response capacities, at national & 🇪🇺level.

On #preparedness and #response, we must expand Europe’s existing fleet of firefighting planes.
@EU_Commission is doubling the firefighting aircraft available already for 2023.
We are also accelerating the buildup of our permanent #rescEU reserve firefighting air fleet.

We will continue with pre-positioning firefighters across Europe.
It proved to be successful in 2022 in 🇬🇷 and we want 👨🚒 from even more countries involved.
EU Member States are invited to express their interest in hosting or sending 👨🚒 for 2023 #wildfire season.

Most importantly, we must boost #prevention of wildfires across entire Europe.
@EU_Commission's soon to be published action plan for wildfire prevention aims at improving local capacities, better use our #EUCivilProtectionMechanism tools and share knowledge on preventing 🔥.

Still this month, the @EU_Commission aims to adopt the European Disaster Resilience Goals in Civil Protection.
It will include recommendations for MS so we all move in the same direction in view of the lessons and scientific advice in crisis management, including on #wildfires.
