We celebrated the #Independence of the USA. On this occasion, I remarked that it is the people-to-people relations that really measure the deep bond between two countries. I am proud that many elements of our #diaspora in the #USA are holding important & successful positions.

I received the farewell call by H.E. Tomaž Kunstelj, Ambassador of the Republic of #Slovenia to Malta, during which we discussed the importance of strengthening multilateral dialogue on peace whilst giving the #Mediterranean & the #Balkan regions the required political attention.

I congratulate the first cohort of MBBS students who graduated from the @QMULMalta. As a family doctor myself for 49 years, I advised the graduates to be ready to listen to their patients, & to live up to the high ethical standards of the medical profession, always & everywhere.

I visited the #Victim Support Agency. Together with the CEO, Mr Brian Farrugia, as well as the Minister for Home Affairs, Byron Camilleri, it was a pleasure to hear about the various initiatives being taken by the same Agency incl. to continue to address hate speech.

I had an interesting meeting with representatives from the Positive Parenting Taskforce, set up within the Ministry for Social Policy and Children's Rights. I was pleased to hear that many parents express an interest in #parenting training.

We celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Air Wing of the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) at the Aviation Museum in Ta' Qali. It is interesting that the #50years of this wing's #history is collected in a commemorative book, launched on this occasion.

It was a pleasure to inaugurate the #volleyball marathon in aid of id-Dar tal-Providenza. In a few words on the occasion, I referred to the great charitable works done by the Dar tal-Providenza with the same energy and determination of its founder, Monsignor Azzopardi.

I had an interesting meeting with Ambassador Amir Fehri, creative Arab youth Ambassador at the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALESCO). I was impressed by Mr Fehri’s energy and enthusiasm to promote the #rights of #young #people.

Yesterday, we attended the #inauguration of the #conservation and #restoration project of the icon of Our Lady of Damascus, revered in the Greek Catholic parish in Valletta. It was very interesting to hear about the work done during the restoration process.

My last engagement for the State Visit to Qatar was a visit to the @Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, which provides very advanced medical assistance to international athletes. It was interesting to hear about the facilities and services offered.

Earlier today, together with the delegation, we visited the Al-Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, which will host the opening match of the @FIFAWorldCup. Here we were given an explanation, among others, on the technology used to control the temperature in the stadium and other facilities.

Accompanied by the Minister for Finance and Employment, Clyde Caruana, on Tuesday morning, I visited the company UCC Holding, where discussions were held on several sectors in which it operates and the possibility of investing in #Malta.

On Monday evening, I visited the United Development Company, where I was shown the company's latest project, which includes the Corinthia Group’s investment in Doha, #Qatar.

Engagements in Qatar continued with a visit to the National Library. It was interesting to observe the advanced technology used in this library & archives of manuscripts and maps, among others. Here I have presented a facsimile of the Kantilena & several books by Maltese authors.

This morning I had a very cordial meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the Diwani Palace in Doha. During the meeting, we discussed among others, the relations between #Malta and #Qatar dating back more than 40 years.

We visited the National Museum of Qatar, where we could appreciate the country's #history & #culture. We saw various aspects of the lives of the people of #Qatar: from the pearl and artisan industries to maps, manuscripts, and photographs that reflect the country's development.
