During the meeting for which I was accompanied by Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli, we discussed the war in Ukraine, multilateralism and the priorities of the two countries in the United Nations Security Council, as Ireland was a non-permanent member before Malta.

We also visited the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) within the University, where we followed a presentation on the institute's work which focuses on the environmental challenges of climate change, circular economy, and healthy environment.

At University College Cork, @PresidentIRL and I had an interesting meeting with a group of students, including two Maltese students, focusing among others, on climate change and environmental protection.

Together with the @PresidentIRL Michael D. Higgins and Mrs Sabina Higgins, Miriam and I travelled to #Cork by train.

Upon our arrival, we had a courtesy meeting with the Deputy Lord Mayor of Cork, Mr Damien Boylan at Cork City Hall.

In my speech, I remarked that the great affinity between our two peoples manifests not only, through high-level political exchanges and contacts but especially through those that lie at the heart of our communities – our people-to-people contacts.

The first day of the State Visit to #Ireland ended with a State Dinner hosted by the @PresidentIRL, Michael D. Higgins and Mrs Sabina Higgins, also attended by Prime Minister Leo Varadkar.

In Ireland, I had an interesting meeting with Prime Minister @LeoVaradkar.
The discussion focused on similarities between Malta 🇲🇹 and Ireland 🇮🇪, climate change, Africa, and the war in Ukraine.

Prof. Alex Felice, member of @RareDiseasesMT and Mr Yann Le Cam founder and CEO of @eurordis -Rare Diseases Europe gave an overview on rare diseases in Malta and in Europe. Mrs Muscat expressed her gratitude to the MCCF for the assistance it provides to rare diseases patients.

As we commemorate #RareDiseasesDay, Mrs Michelle Muscat, President of the National Alliance for the Support of Rare Diseases, presented me with a copy of a book entitled ‘Special, Just Like You and Me’ was authored by Dr Frank Grossmann, who was a rare disease patient himself.

The newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of #Türkiye to Malta, His Excellency Erdeniz Şen, presented his Letters of Credence. During our meeting, I reiterated my condolences and support to the people of Türkiye following the earthquake on 6 February.
