⚡️ At a time of great tensions at world level , with the effects of climate change becoming more and more noticeable, it is absolutely necessary for Europe to advance in the energy transition. Reducing our CO2 emissions is a European commitment to the planet and is included in the Climate Law. It also means moving towards an energy system less dependent on fossil fuels, taking advantage of renewable resources while generating industrial opportunities in the energy transition itself. This is called the Green Deal.
☀️ In my speech I recalled the role that we have played from the Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament to achieve an ambitious Renewable Directive, with its objective of 42.5% of final energy consumed by 2030, which is approximately double what it is now. That ambition is a signal to investors: Europe wants more renewables and fewer fossils. But it is not only by setting objectives that changes are achieved. We have tried to improve legislation to address two issues that are delaying renewable progress: the slowness of administrative permits and the need to improve public acceptance, as both factors go hand in hand. The affected territories must obtain compensation while preserving the essential values ​​of biodiversity and nature protection.
