@mcdiesel88 @squinteratn @bbctheview @MarkCarruthers7 That's why I specifically said those issues need to be part of any properly resourced plan.

@GrahamWard000 @squinteratn @ClarNiUigin @bbctheview @MarkCarruthers7 Precisely this. With unplanned collapse, it's rural communities that bear the burden: planned reform properly funded would allow some elective specialisms to be located in areas outside Belfast and those of us who live in the city need to be willing to travel, too.

@Ppreally111Pp @gerardcassidy @allianceparty @healthdpt That isn't what I said. I said we all have to be willing to travel if this is to work: currently, most of that burden is borne by people in rural areas in the west.
That's why I support planned reform, to engage Translink and Infrastructure, rather than unplanned collapse.

@Carolin55162028 @gerardcassidy @allianceparty @healthdpt Save Our Acute Hospital: the campaign group to protect the acute status and emergency services at the SWAH.
They discussed their 5 point plan and made a presentation on the challenges that recent service withdrawal is causing. We're now taking some key points back to the Trust.

@gerardcassidy @allianceparty @healthdpt Yes, I am and I have. I have said already that emergency general surgery wasn't removed as part of planned reform, but because lack of consultants made it unsustainable. That kind of unplanned collapse, which is damaging, will continue unless planned reforms are implemented.

@mattleslie74 @allianceparty The comments were about reform (Bengoa). The issues in SWAH were not Bengoa reforms, but unplanned.
And I met SOAH today in Enniskillen with @PaulaJaneB discuss their 5 point plan. It was very positive and we're following up with DOH and the Trust.

@castleDD @bbctheview @MarkCarruthers7 I also said that @deptinfra and @Translink_NI need to be part of the conversation about health reform. Without affordable, accessible transport reform won't work.
And we all (including those of us in urban areas) need to be willing to bear part of the burden.

@castleDD @bbctheview @MarkCarruthers7 Dermot, I specifically said that I supported reform that was properly funded and resourced. The SWAH decision wasn't part of reform a reform process - it was a service collapse, and those almost always impact rural areas most. 1/2

RT @DonalGormley: @castleDD @bbctheview @naomi_long @MarkCarruthers7 And also talked about how extra funding is required for reform. My assumption is that this will be to solve issues for vulnerable people. I could be wrong as it wasn’t dug deeply into though.

@invermilarne @NZ_Shane_NI He won't have the life experience of an older candidate, but he may have more fresh ideas, connect with different constituencies and bring something new to debate.

@l_oc81 @Banaltra_rois I completely agree. We wrote to the @healthdpt and @deptinfra months ago, and met with @Translink_NI to specifically argue the case for road and transport upgrades to be part of the discussion. I mentioned that last night, too. We're still waiting on their response.

@gerardcassidy @allianceparty @healthdpt Supporting reform, delivered in a strategic manner with openness and transparency, is the only way to avoid the burden of service collapse disproportionately impacting rural communities. Those of us in eastern urban areas need to be willing to shoulder our part of the burden.

@gerardcassidy @allianceparty We met with SOAC campaign in Enniskillen today. Nothing I said last night is in conflict with ensuring that acute services at the SWAH are safe and sustainable. We've had a positive meeting and will continue to engage with the Trust and @healthdpt to resolve this. 1/2

@mattleslie74 @allianceparty By saying that we need properly structured reform, proper transport links to services, and not allow rural services to wither away?

RT @PaulaJaneB: A productive day in Enniskillen w/ @naomi_long and @EddieRoofe chatting to local people about local issues! There were also lovely dogs to meet too 🐾

@Tiernan075 @bbctheview @MarkCarruthers7 Which is why we wrote to @healthdpt and @deptinfra to ask for a coordinated approach to health reform, and for @Translink_NI to be involved in planning.
We're still waiting on a response.
Connectivity to services is crucial.
