I hope that the McAnespie family can find some peace and comfort after this long-awaited verdict today.

It also further reinforces the injustice of the Govt's Legacy Bill, which would deny justice in similar cases.
RT @irish_news: A judge has found a former soldier had pointed a machine gun at Aidan McAnespie & pulled the trigger while assuming the gun was not cocked.
“The defendant took an enormous risk for no reason in circumstances where he was under no pressu…

Some really significant progress being made by @PoliceServiceNI over recent weeks against a wide range of organised crime gangs. Whether drugs, weapons, or human slavery, it is all exploitation and action against it is to be welcomed.

@PoliceFedforNI
RT @BelTel: The police have made multiple arrests and seized a “large quantity” of suspected drugs following an operation linked to the INLA in Belfast and Londonderry.

RT @PMcReynoldsMLA: @pmdfoster @FT @jude_webber Didn’t he recently say he’d ‘eat grass’, rather than concede ground on the protocol?

Behind the scenes it’s ok to ‘cherry pick’?

I really wish the DUP would stop playing games with NI and the lives of all those who live here.

@BelfastBre Aww, Brenda, I'm so sorry to hear this. Losing your mummy is never easy. Just glad you were able to be with her at the end and that it was peaceful. I know that's little comfort right now, but it will be as time passes.

Sending you love ❤️

RT @SorchaEastwood: Secondly, the veteran speaking about "witch hunts" has been proven to be inaccurate. There have been no vexatious prosecutions. Anyone who did their job legally, fairly & within the law should have nothing to fear. Families are entitled to the truth at the bare minimum.

RT @SorchaEastwood: Aidan McAnespie was shot dead in 1988. He was on his way to a GAA game. The repugnant Legacy Bill UKG are forcing through wants to stop families finding out the truth. This ruling proves that justice can still be done many years later. Thinking of McAnespie family today 1/

@tbdukni And that projected overspend was reduced because we either slowed or stopped elements of work that we could and tried to realise savings.

These are not in conflict.

@AndrewC18939072 Pay and energy costs. The cost-of-living crisis increases the cost of running government, too.

@nordicoirlanda @Magahy That's pretty much the system - it is means tested.

The exceptions are where the court awards legal aid because it's in the interests of justice.

It isn't awarded to solictors, but to clients who could otherwise not afford to access justice.

@JohnMar90718642 In fairness most of it is health and most of that is pay and heating.

We also had no ability to redistribute money between departments due to the DUP walk out.

But if you can do better, run for office.

@dmurray0 @JohnMar90718642 Agreed. Departments don't deliver by magic: we have to pay our civil service to make things happen. My own department had to stop replacing people who left to save money, but that means fewer people to deliver and so key projects slow or stop. Those left are under huge pressure.

@tbdukni Well, it does. The money at the centre was money we had to spend but couldn't access. The overspend is money we didn't have.

So, one minus the other gives the actual deficit.

@Belfast20211 @katy_scarletta When there is no Executive, there is no means to get approval. Had there been, I'd not have needed to issue a Ministerial direction.

@taffdon @StephenFarryMP Yes, I set it aside to ensure legal aid bills could continue to be paid within the 12 week statutory period, to ensure that access to justice for those without financial means and ensure that small law firms don't collapse.
