The work of @NIPrisons is complex and challenging. They work with vulnerable, volatile and violent offenders, serve the public and protect our community. They should never be under threat for doing so.

If you can help police with their enquiries into David's murder, please do.
RT @NIPrisons: Today marks the 10th anniversary of the murder of our colleague David Black. The thoughts of everyone in the Prison Service are with Yvonne, …

@CH000926 Not unusual for men to make an arduous journey first and then apply to bring their wife and family afterwards, once their status is settled.

But this remains irrelevant to the issue of the conditions in which they are being accommodated.

@Redmundial80 @Mellltttt The police said it was arson, so that is deliberate.

Irrespective of who did it, it is stoking tensions: the fact you're so exercised about it shows that.

I did not imply who was responsible or their thinking. I was careful not to.

I think you jumped to conclusions, there.

@Mellltttt I often tweet about crime, yes.

And that you think in that way reflect badly on you, not me.

@maxbrown3268 This isn't about who can enter the country legally: it's about the appalling conditions in which people are being held.

The issues regarding where a person may seek asylum are just legal facts.

Maybe the tweet just seemed like nonsense because you didn't read it properly?

@GeraldinBelfast Why are you speaking to me about myself as though I'm someone else?

This isn't about who can enter the country: it's about the appalling conditions in which they are being held.

@awilliamsmonprs @MervynMolyneaux I've never said it should be unlimited.

When people are here - whether being assessed or awaiting deportation - we have a duty, legal and moral, to ensure they are accommodated in a decent and dignified manner.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/naomi_long/status/15

@amentothat99 People who say that are, in my experience, some of the least charitable people around.

They pit the destitute against each other but have no interest in helping either those from here or those who arrive here.

@findomdestroyer @jamiemathis01 Have your read about what is happening? About the conditions?

They aren't "complaining about accommodation" out of "ingratitude".

The accommodation is overcrowded, squalid, without enough hot water for showers, enough food, or proper bedding.

@ConneryDavy You don't have to apply in the first country, that's not the law.

Maybe if asylum seekers were permitted to work and support themselves, which they want to do, they'd be better protected from exploitation by OCGs.

Same with opening legal routes.

@SeanMcC1967 @dmcbfs I didn't deny that. We were talking about NDNA which came later.

It was the best guess of two Governments: they got it right in parts, wrong in others.

What they did to improve stability was clearly useless or we wouldn't be back here. Under our proposals, we wouldn't be.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/naomi_long/status/15

@Stephen40825524 @dmcbfs I don't read his stuff. Sadly some of it strays into my feed occasionally.

@UkRestrictions @MervynMolyneaux Is it? Because when the Normans came from France, they literally invaded.

Not to mention the various empires, the wholesale movement of people on slave ships all round the world.

What of emigration from these islands? But they're 'ex-pats', of course, not immigrants...

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/naomi_long/status/15

@MervynMolyneaux @ThreadgillNick You don't always have that choice, Mervyn. Especially when so many legal routes are closed down.

We could always open legal routes again, let asylum seekers work to support themselves, and be a bit more humane about things.

But the 'hostile environment policy' stops that.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/naomi_long/status/15

@Mellltttt I've tweeted twice, once during the fire, once when it was established as arson. What's your issue?

I didn't say who did it. I condemned arson and asked people to assist police.

PSNI investigation as a hate crime is based on the perception of the victim. Standard approach.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/naomi_long/status/15

@RogerOkOk @ChloeHi05842893 I do not support this.

I also don't subscribe to the view that we can dismiss whole groups of people as "them" and then blame "them" for one person's choices.

Finally, performances by artists in different settings respect that: Maverick is an adult venue, a school is not.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/naomi_long/status/15

@Dermot46878770 Condemning arson? Why would that be a strategy for votes?
