@CH000926 Not unusual for men to make an arduous journey first and then apply to bring their wife and family afterwards, once their status is settled.
But this remains irrelevant to the issue of the conditions in which they are being accommodated.

When people are here - whether being assessed or awaiting deportation - we have a duty, legal and moral, to ensure they are accommodated in a decent and dignified manner.
@amentothat99 People who say that are, in my experience, some of the least charitable people around.
They pit the destitute against each other but have no interest in helping either those from here or those who arrive here.

They aren't "complaining about accommodation" out of "ingratitude".
The accommodation is overcrowded, squalid, without enough hot water for showers, enough food, or proper bedding.
@ConneryDavy You don't have to apply in the first country, that's not the law.
Maybe if asylum seekers were permitted to work and support themselves, which they want to do, they'd be better protected from exploitation by OCGs.
Same with opening legal routes.
@SeanMcC1967 @dmcbfs I didn't deny that. We were talking about NDNA which came later.
It was the best guess of two Governments: they got it right in parts, wrong in others.
What they did to improve stability was clearly useless or we wouldn't be back here. Under our proposals, we wouldn't be.

We could always open legal routes again, let asylum seekers work to support themselves, and be a bit more humane about things.
But the 'hostile environment policy' stops that.

I didn't say who did it. I condemned arson and asked people to assist police.
PSNI investigation as a hate crime is based on the perception of the victim. Standard approach.

I also don't subscribe to the view that we can dismiss whole groups of people as "them" and then blame "them" for one person's choices.
Finally, performances by artists in different settings respect that: Maverick is an adult venue, a school is not.
