We reached an agreement yesterday on the revision of the regulation concerning the integrity and transparency in wholesale energy markets (REMIT). As the lead rapporteur for this significant reform, and following a complex negotiation process between the European Parliament and the Council, I am very pleased.
This agreement is a crucial step towards a better energy market. It is also a victory for European consumers, citizens, and businesses, as well as small operators, preventing and combating illicit practices in the energy market, such as insider trading and market manipulation.
This revision will allow:
💡 Reinforcing the role for the EU-Agency for the Cooperation of the Energy Regulators (ACER) in the investigations on possible breaches of the rules
💡 Strengthening the enforcement regime of cross-border cases with a European dimension
💡 Prevent that smaller market participants are subject to expensive and burdensome reporting obligations
