RT by @lukeming: This ‘argument’ that the Irish weren’t given social welfare etc., when they emigrated drives me nuts. Wouldn’t it have been amazing if we were helped more? And wouldn’t it be even more amazing if we could be the country who shows others how it’s done? Especially for those seeking refuge from dangerous countries? And yes, we absolutely should be supporting our own homeless and vulnerable too, at the same time. Again, this is a Govt issue, and it has nothing to do with the people who seek refuge here. Anyone who says or thinks differently seriously needs to consider why they think this way.
