RT by @istvan_ujhelyi: 💥Update: the fallout of @KatalinNovak_HU's pedophilia pardoning scandal is enormous. Viktor Orbán switched to damage control mode and set to curb the president's pardoning powers when it comes to crimes committed against children. He essentially threw her under the bus.

This means that even the government's supporters are outraged, according to the government's internal pollings – all this despite the pro-Orbán propaganda machinery doing their best to avoid the topic and not cover it at all. Katalin Novák built all her political persona around the image of being "pro-family" and "pro-children", hence the extreme damage of this pardoning case.

Many say that President Novák's political career is essentially over, and there will be a big protest in front of her office today evening. Opposition parties are calling for her resignation while even some of Novák's advisors are resigning themselves (and making their decision public). It's still unlikely at this point that Novák will be actually forced to resign, but a second presidential term for her now looks out of question (as she'd be no use to Orbán anymore).

Moreover, this scandal is so big that it could even jeopardize @JuditVarga_EU's political career – it was revealed that, as minister of justice, Varga was the one who signed off Novák's controversial pardoning of the child abuser orphanage director's accomplice. There's also chatter that Varga may not be the Fidesz party's frontrunner for the European Parliament elections eventually. Even Varga's recently divorced ex-husband wrote in public about how the pardoning was a big mistake, which is something extremely rare in the well-disciplined and tight-lipped world of the Fidesz party.
