Just because it was thanks to the tireless efforts of an Estonian journalist that this was was accomplished, this isn't just an Estonian issue.
It's about how CEE is lazily characterized -- "former Soviet", "former communist bloc" etc, especially in the US and German media 1/n

Re The USSR died a third of a Century ago, some countries once occupied (like mine) have outstripped in GDP per capita, rule of law, low corruption, press freedom, educational achievement much of the EU and the US.
Yet this terminology persists.
It is obnoxious. 2/3

Re I was born and grew up in the post-War West. 33 years after the end of WW2. Nobody but nobody in the media in 1978 wrote about "formerly Nazi Germany" in describing education, politics or economics in the Bundesrepublic.
France was never "formerly Nazi occupied Vichy". 3/3

A simple question for all NATO citizens:
If you were attacked by Russia, wouldn't you want to have Ukrainian troops -- the only ones ever to have successfully fought the Russians -- in the trench along side you?
You would, wouldn't you?
So tell that to your government.
Today.

And for all the Finns saying "what about us!" in the replies.
People, you are already IN.
You would be in the trenches with the rest of us anyway.
Ukraine is the country that needs to be in.
It's not all about you. That's the point of NATO.
