If Putin is given an offramp he will use it to drive straight to the next conflict. If he is left undefeated in Ukraine he will be back later for more. Peace requires victory, not compromises with the invaders. It's time to finally secure the eastern flank of Europe.

More than 30 years ago, out of the victory against the the USSR, a free and independent Lithuania emerged.
Ahead of the NATO Summit in Vilnius, I reiterated today to my good friend @SecBlinken that peace will be born out of Ukrainian victory against Russia.

My colleague Valdas Benkunskas, vice-mayor of Vilnius, saw Putin supporters laying flowers on a destroyed Russian tank from Ukraine, so he installed a garbage container that says "for carnations, candles and Soviet nostalgia".

Those antique soviet tanks being deployed in Ukraine were also deployed in our capital city 32 years ago to crush our independence.
We still remember the sound of the engines. We will never forget the victims.
