F reminds of @TotalEnergies not complying with french law
Part E draws attention to some of the people who suffered severe human rights violations like death threats and arbitrary imprisonment.
Part D focuses on the severe climate impact of the additional 34 million tonnes of carbon that would be emitted to the atmosphere and the @IEA warning of new oil projects. Total claims to build climate-friendly pipeline which is a bad joke in itself.
Part C recalls the strong opposition through civil society
Part B recalls the danger for water sources through EACOP. Especially the tsunami risk in Tanga and the water crossing technique „open trench“
Now lets look into the text. The „having regard“ part shows the documents or treaties of relevance for the resolution.
The „whereas“ part (marked by letters A-H) Shows the information and facts that were taken into account.
It starts with with general recognition
First: A resolution is representing the 🇪🇺 parliaments position on something (in this case the human rights violations and environmental concerns regarding EACOP) so of course this is NOT legally binding for 🇺🇬 or 🇹🇿. 🇪🇺 „calls“ or „urges“ but can‘t decide.
I co-initiated resolution on 🇺🇬/🇹🇿 which is widely discussed at the moment. Big support from local people but also accusations of racism and imperialism from the speaker of @Parliament_Ug came up.
So what exactly is in this resolution? Let’s go though it completely! A tread 🧵
@pmuliisa21 Well it would be horrible if you could not find a single one where compensation worked. But there are far too many where it did not!

@SsekatawaAli @mulindwa_guy @Jacob_Rees_Mogg @TotalEnergies Ali I will stop talking to you now. I repetitively asked you to stay respectful but you did not manage
@SsekatawaAli @mulindwa_guy @Jacob_Rees_Mogg @TotalEnergies
@SsekatawaAli @mulindwa_guy @Jacob_Rees_Mogg There is a war against Africa and you are one of the blind soldiers not caring about your brothers and sisters and letting @TotalEnergies grab unprocessed raw-materials from Ugandan people which is actually forbidden 😉
@elisonk @martlubs @TotalEnergies @europarl_en Nope the non-organic ones
@DaudiKabanda @NasaJames1 @europarl_en If not, I‘ll be happy to elaborate. Best regards
@DaudiKabanda @NasaJames1 @europarl_en If you ask me next time please tag me so I can see it ;) And yes you may ask: I do this in my capacity as an European MP and member of the joint parliamentary assembly of ACP-EU and of course not because Museveni refused sth. May I ask you if you know how resolutions work?
@NasaJames1 @RogersTheSeller @SsekatawaAli @europarl_en @TotalEnergies
RT @galleerie: @SsekatawaAli @europarl_en My colleague that you are showing clearly doesn’t understand what resolutions are about. It’s about expressing the opinion, not something legally binding. Luckily we don’t have colonial law anymore. We can just urge you. But Ali, why don’t you care about your brothers?
@mulindwa_guy @Jacob_Rees_Mogg But of course you are right that we have to be equally loud on every fossil fuel project
@mulindwa_guy @Jacob_Rees_Mogg This is not true. We are fighting for zero emissions everywhere
@KakwenzaRukira Yeah and now they call us imperialists, racists, neo-colonialists… 🙄
