@gavinpoints @JohnStuartWilso You say excuse, I say reality, the reality we are in because we voted No in 2014 and the UK voted leave in 2016.
If not Independence then what?

@JohnStuartWilso @gavinpoints Exports in financial services to the UK won’t be affected, why would they?
Exports in financial services to the EU and to the rest of the world will be boosted with Independence. irishtimes.com/business/financ

@JohnStuartWilso @gavinpoints Scotland is internationally recognised as the most important UK financial centre outside London and the South East with a breadth of financial services including global custody, asset servicing, banking, investment management, corporate finance, general/life assurance & pensions.

@gavinpoints @JohnStuartWilso Northern Ireland is still part of the UK last time I checked.
I see your attempt to move the conversation on, I understand.

@JohnStuartWilso @gavinpoints What EU member will we share a border with?
If you mean a land border, see the Republic of Ireland.

We can't. All we can do is apply. Then what happens is up to them, and it will take a generation to resolve.
Croatia applied for EU membership in 2003, joined in 2013.

@kezzy1965 @gavinpoints Customs union and single market with freedom of movement, just what Northern Ireland enjoys today.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/Christia_Alla

@JohnStuartWilso @gavinpoints We can choose to join the customs union and the single market, just like Northern Ireland.
We can choose to join the European Union, just like the Republic of Ireland.
That’s what Independence will bring us, real choice.

@kezzy1965 @gavinpoints Tories and Labour have said no for the UK to rejoin the EU, no to for the UK to rejoin the customs union and the single market.
Tories and Labour have said no for Scotland to copy Northern Ireland and to join the customs union and the single market.
If not Independence then what?

@gavinpoints Nobody in the SNP has given up on Independence, I would know.
Responses at the doorstep are quite good.

@Newareopagitica @europarl_en @UKHouseofLords You are describing devolution, the EU works differently, first under the principle of subsidiarity and secondly by giving smaller member states a proportional bigger role than smaller nations in the UK ever have and ever will.

@nobry The 705 members of the European Parliament are not all french and they meet most of the time in Belgium, another country.

@JohnStuartWilso @gavinpoints 1/ Brexit has introduced significant barriers to cross-border trade in financial services, contributing to a steady loss of financial business, activity and jobs.

2/ Those in the bottom percentile have a worse standard of living than the poorest in countries in western Europe.

@gavinpoints @JohnStuartWilso Non, I don’t know it. We have 2 examples across the water, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland both economies are doing better because they are in the customs union and the single market.
If it’s good enough for them, it must be good enough for us.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/Christia_Alla

@tommyknocker67 It did, we voted No to Independence in 2014, the Brexit vote followed straight away and the UK voted to leave the European Union.
This is what happened.

@JohnStuartWilso I didn’t, I said we should join the customs union and the single market, I never said anything about merging, you did.
