Courting Middle Eastern autocrats won’t solve ’s refugee crisis. Their repressive rule is forcing thousands to make the treacherous journey across the Mediterranean.

Re @northernmnkey @SimonPartridge @brokenbottleboy @dai_alectic @joycemcm @suzannezeedyk @nickduffell It's not about what you'd like to see. It's what will prevent something that is much more painfully transformative, which is global war and displacement of billions. Doing something happily transformative is such a blindingly obvious preferable scenario. We are on the cliff edge.

Re @northernmnkey @SimonPartridge @brokenbottleboy @dai_alectic @joycemcm @suzannezeedyk @nickduffell @NeilMackay That's not going to be sufficient. We need to behave like we did for covid. Actually end the practices and find a way to do without them.

Re @SimonPartridge @northernmnkey @brokenbottleboy @dai_alectic @joycemcm @suzannezeedyk @nickduffell @NeilMackay Extinction would be the more comfortable option. We're going to be at war for the last remaining resources. No one will be comfortable.

Re @SimonPartridge @brokenbottleboy @dai_alectic @northernmnkey @joycemcm @suzannezeedyk @nickduffell Don't you think workers' collectives are common ownership? That's different from state ownership and from communism where no one owns it because it's not property.

Re @northernmnkey @SimonPartridge @brokenbottleboy @dai_alectic @joycemcm @suzannezeedyk @nickduffell Its problem is that it doesn't understand that it is perpetuating the system of capitalist hierarchy where workers are used as wage slaves to feed the greed of the idle rich. It won't come out and challenge that. There are various alternatives but Labour offers none of them.

Re @edwinhayward Tories really represent the most debased values on planet earth and are thereby disqualified from claiming to be . Time for true patriots to defend the 's moral integrity, and defy the get their way: we are stuffed otherwise.

Re @northernmnkey @SimonPartridge @brokenbottleboy @dai_alectic @joycemcm @suzannezeedyk @nickduffell @NeilMackay China is already doing far more than we are and from a lower per capita emissions position. This cheap thought that they're not cutting is false. Of course if we keep importing goods from them we're responsible for the emissions from their manufacturing.

Re @CmdrSpace @brokenbottleboy In most rural constituencies anyone who wants the nearest thing they can get to left has to vote Lib Dem. There are more people voting to the left of Tory than Tory plus other far right parties. That's why you can only get the correct answer from the blind policy surveys.

Re But even when defendants are guilty, it is just as important that they are properly legally advised, fairly tried and fairly sentenced.
That’s how we do justice in this country.
And I’m proud of it, even if @nigelmills and The Sun aren’t.

Re I don’t care if I am stuck on repeat. These have been allowed to flourish unchecked for years. Stories like these are like fake health cure articles - they cause irreparable damage not only to public understanding, but to people’s lives. They must be challenged.

‼️Brexit Britain 🇬🇧 are paying more for food, which is increasingly imported and of lower standards which harms health, environment and animals.

Re @FridgeBoris Brexit reality is that food price rises would have been 8 percentage points lower – nearly a third – without Brexit, at 17 per cent, rather than the actual rise of almost 25 per cent.

Re @SimonPartridge @brokenbottleboy @dai_alectic @northernmnkey @joycemcm @suzannezeedyk @nickduffell Depends what you mean by naked socialism. In blind policy tests the vast majority of people choose to support public funding for health care, social care, roads, education. They think railways & vital infrastructure/utilities should be affordable, publicly owned, not for profit.

Re @SimonPartridge @brokenbottleboy @dai_alectic @northernmnkey @joycemcm @suzannezeedyk @nickduffell They think wages should meet the cost of living and that housing should be affordable for families with two wage earners. They think that taxation should be according to the ability to pay and should not exempt the rich or unearned income.

Re @SimonPartridge @brokenbottleboy @dai_alectic @northernmnkey @joycemcm @suzannezeedyk @nickduffell Securing the full fruits of their labour is about wage negotiations and preventing exploitation. That's precisely not compatible with communism. Shared ownership and cooperatives etc reduce the exploitation by keeping the proceeds of the work in the hands of the workers.
