announces obscene profits from charging too much to supply gas, and installing prepay meters for those who can't pay.
What's HM govt doing?
Feeding public money into their profits, while the Tory folk buy the shares.

@hagleypedant The laws came in because of demands from unionised workers and because they managed to elect a socialist government. Plus later some rights thanks to the EU.

@hagleypedant The aim of our policies is to make it possible & easy to do literally everything you want to do, without needing to own a car, and more easily, with fewer delays/accidents. You find it hard to imagine because you're stuck with supposing that cars are a good way to get around.

RT @AdrianRamsay: "I am a human being as well as a politician". Huge respect for @NicolaSturgeon's open and honest statement and for making this decision on her own terms.

A powerful call too for resetting the tone and tenor of discourse and depolarising public debate.

RT @scottishgreens: Nicola Sturgeon has truly been a major figure in Scottish and UK politics.

A statement on her resignation from Scottish Green co-leaders @patrickharvie and @lornaslater.

@hagleypedant It was the unions that won the rights and protections for workers, to end exploitation. Just because your dad wasn't in the union that doesn't mean he didn't benefit from what the unions fought for on his behalf. It just means he didn't do anything to contribute to the task.

RT @Pinarello_Pete: @DailyMailUK Highway Code rule 140 ends the debate. Perhaps try reading it? I’ve highlighted the exact text that proves JV was acting within its rules and the driver wasn’t. End of.

@hagleypedant Imagine how easy it would be to get out and about if we were able to put in place the facilities and provisions we have in mind! Already 17 million people live without a car, but our buses are all jammed up in traffic. We need to change that: make roads empty and transport handy.

@hagleypedant What policies do you mean? Our policies are designed to enable and facilitate an easier life, improving opportunities in the green industries of the future. The old grey industries are dead: we need to invest in a future fit to live in, to get around cleanly, comfortably easily.

RT @PaulbernalUK: Sturgeon knows when to go, and how to go. Compare and contrast with Raab, Braverman, Zahawi etc….

@hagleypedant I think no one should have to work seven days a week just to get by. We've got into a ridiculous position where it's OK for employers to pay so little that people have to take two jobs or claim benefits. It's crazy. Our policies are precisely to end that and enable you to thrive.

@hagleypedant I know very well that the council estates became riddled with social problems, drugs, crime and violence, and that is certainly a terrible thing, and led people to get out if they had any chance. But we should ask what gave rise to that. It was not the housing as such.

@hagleypedant You're quite right and I concede that you know better than me from personal experience. I was only talking about the quality of the buildings and the size of the gardens provided in social housing in the 20th century. It was designed to offer a better quality of life.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/catherinerowe

@hagleypedant No, but the council houses are nice and have gardens to grow good food and win awards. It's great, having decent council housing and not back-to-back miners' cottages with just a yard. You know. These are great things. I am proud of my country, for those things. 🇬🇧

@hagleypedant Yes and the overtime pay was won by getting the 5 day week as the standard beyond which you got overtime. Depended on hard won rights extracted by trade unions and put in by socialist governments.
