@RefugeesAtHome @DPJHodges Safe routes. Sensible parties have this as a standard policy. It ends people trafficking and risky small boats.

RT @RefugeesAtHome: @DPJHodges Oh that’s easy! If we can give Ukrainians visas, we can do it for others feeling war and persecution too. Let people apply for asylum without having to be on British soil and the smuggler model is broken at a stroke.

RT @greenbenali: Once again @pritipatel and the Home Office have not told the truth

The UNHCR never supported efforts to deport refugees to Rwanda

I remember the good old days when lying ministers would resign theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/j

@richard_of_yore And it's not a political issue. It's a moral one, relating to justice and obligations to humanity.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

@richard_of_yore When we have no government but just criminals we need everyone to speak, all the time and everywhere. No one should keep silence when refugees are being wronged. Silence is complicity and we can't demand it of anyone. You need to find your moral compass too.

It's uncontroversial that the plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda is awful. We could do with more influential people saying so. That they hold that view is only to be expected and precisely as it should be. That Prince Charles also thinks this is a relief but not newsworthy.

@martin_farley @tomhillonline Weren't they better provided by the council house for life principle? Being in debt to a mortgage company is fairly oppressive, like paying rent only you pay for the maintenance on top. The risk of losing your home isn't great. But selling to pay for yr old age is useful.

@HutchinsonDave @rachel_norfolk Goodness that's a very modern plug! Three round pins would be more 1950s.

Does no one in this govt or the media understand that the isn't caused by high wages but by high prices and shortages? And that freezing/cutting wages will lead to collapse of economy, severe poverty, failure to invest/repair, reduced tax revenue, & inflation? Twats!

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

RT @UniteSharon: The PM talks about a 'wage-price’ spiral. Wages are chasing prices, not putting them up. It's a ‘profits & profiteering spiral’ that's responsible for this inflation surge. Maybe it’s time we started talking about profiteering restraint not wage restraint. independent.co.uk/news/uk/bori

@greenmattbfd We all know why Tories want to turn renters into property owners. They become voters who want house prices to rise, who want taxes on property kept low, who resist redistribution of wealth and favour cuts in inheritance tax. All things designed make the super rich richer.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

@martin_farley The extra cost of urgent repairs is hard for homeowners on low incomes without a pot of savings. And communal gardens and buildings can become problematic or expensive if not maintained by the housing association. But of course Tories want to turn socialists into property owners.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

@martin_farley I'm not at all against people, rather than private landlords, buying ordinary private housing. But it's not good for everyone, and not likely to be your first home. Housing associations are charged with providing plentiful social housing for renters, not for private investment.

RT @CarolineRussell: I’m so glad @LondonAssembly stands united with our trans and gender diverse friends and colleagues. Today, every party voted unanimously for my motion for trans people to be included in the protection of the Government’s conversion therapy ban. london.gov.uk/press-releases/a

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

@martin_farley Home ownership is OK, but not if it depletes the stock of social housing for those who can't afford it. And mortgages transfer debt to individuals to yield profits for lenders, putting homes at risk for those least well off prices fall. Privatisation of debt, which Tories like.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

"Right to buy" is a way of reducing affordable housing, and increasing private debt: always a bad idea, even worse now. What we need are affordable rents, good quality homes for rent, regulations on insulation/energy efficiency, empty properties defaulting to council ownership.

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

RT @PaulbernalUK: Have I got this right? Housing associations are doing one of the few good things to the housing market, so the government is going to bring in measures to undermine their very existence?

🐦🔗: nitter.eu/catherinerowett/stat

@DavidRobjant Maybe. We need to say that we approve of what the lawyers have to do. It's their job to bring the case. It's our job to say that doing so is the right thing, when the government is breaking the law.
