What an absolute disgrace our citizenship rules and civil service processes are!

A disastrous night for the UK and its international reputation. All five votes lost, including on protections for children and on modern slavery. Shameful. We were finished by 1230am.

The illegal migration bill is illegal, unworkable and couldn't possibly deter anyone. That doesn't stop this filthy government from pretending it's a good thing. Whipping up hatred and fear of the refugees & trafficking victims: lowest of the low in the political rule book. 👀

Re @MingleDandy Research collects information from all the relevant sources, obviously. It's facts, you know. You collect them from the places they are recorded. Some of the research would be done by the house of commons library. No one is denying the truth of these findings. They're facts.

Re @MingleDandy I'm sure you could ask to see the report that's being reported. I couldn't find the original in a quick search, but it's widely reported.

So is it that students are being saddled with debt for degrees that the government's decided are worthless, or that they're being educated at tax payers' expense on such degrees? Oh it's both, is it? Yes that tells us everything about what's wrong with the fees/loans system.

Re And let's note with horror the idea that a degree is only of value to the state if it turns the person into a cog in a machine for production.
We know that graduates think and vote differently, have critical thinking skills, resist conspiracy theories, and accept good reasons.

And yet the Education Minister couldn’t name a single degree, cite a salary threshold or define a good job which would set the criteria for these “Mickey mouse degrees”.

What do student fees pay for at a UK university? World class education at the feet of world class academics, delivering able and flexible citizens capable of deciding that they don't want this government, thank you.

Re @MingleDandy "Analysis by the House of Commons library found that a fifth of the money given directly to the fossil fuel industry was to support new extraction and mining. In 2021, support for fossil fuel extraction rose by 20% to nearly £2bn."

Re @spezzington Reverse each statement, you'd have the truth. UK public can't afford to continue with fossil fuels. Millions are already in debt to energy cartels. Opposition to net zero & climate mitigation measures is a tool of fossil fuel magnates to keep us enslaved & make the rich richer.

Re @mphemmens I think you'll find the Greens are winning in the by-elections. Just take a look at the stats. Not everywhere of course, because in some places there are other socialist options.
