RT @hewitson10: The Tories now talking about scrapping the new rail line for the north

They ran an election with this line in the manifesto, this helped them get the mandate

Now it doesn’t suit, it’s gone

Newsflash Tories conned the north, they don’t care

@jemmaforte 👏

BBC needs to be allowed to report these facts in their own voice too. Political interference to constrain BBC reporting is a disgrace.
RT @paulwaugh: Mark Carney tells @BBCr4today that Brexit is a key reason for interest rates having to go up.
Says 2016 vote devalued sterling, hit growth and productivity + adds he was right in his warnings.

@RobertJenrick @SuellaBraverman What other system are you proposing to put in place to allow them to apply for asylum (as they are legally entitled to do) without having to pay people traffickers and arrive by small boats (which is not illegal but is making a profit from vulnerable and displaced people)?

RT @EcoGwen: Sharma is right to critique the UKs policy on new oil and gas extraction - it is wildly out of step with what is required to keep global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees

@Beatle_Ed1 @docrussjackson @pearceyp78 @mrjamesob Reduction in the UK workforce is shorthand for two things: Brexit (=) and Covid deaths and long term sick (=).

How to blame the without naming it.

RT @pearceyp78: @KemoSahbee9 @mrjamesob She moved on… But Brexit did get slammed twice tonight. This lady, plus earlier by the panel, without interruption & also to applause. Progress 🤞🏼

Blatant stoking of dangerous xenophobia by Tories to get us to blame the victims of war & misfortune for miseries that result from 13 years of . No one who's tried to fill a vacancy recently can think we have too many skilled professionals of working age in the UK. 🙄

Sadly it looks as though they've rowed back and gone the wrong way. What we need are more trains including a good high speed link east west in the North. What we do not need is a power station in East Anglia which is already amply supplied with wind generation offshore.

@hk7TWXZathQnpfc We have a mix: solar, wind, hydro and (sadly) biomass. We could do with more wave & tidal. We need the grid upgraded to stop having to turn off wind turbines at times of plenty. We have some hydraulic storage but we need more. Nuclear power is MUCH too expensive to have a future.

@pedrojuk It's not zero CO2. It requires imported fuel. It generates waste that can't be disposed of. It's on a heritage coast. The sea level is rising. It's a liability in war (the wars are only just beginning). The power costs 9x what a kW from a wind turbine costs. It's so last century.

@ActiveTravelNet @fredmom1 They do pay exactly the same road tax as everyone else. We all pay for the roads and we have a right to walk, cycle or drive on them. Driving does more damage though.

RT @Anoosh_C: An uncomfortable truth undermining UK government rhetoric: young Albanian men - not Brits - are most at risk from criminal gangs.

@PabloAllelli Well they could start by investing in the grid so that we could actually take the wind generated power to where it's needed and not have to turn the turbines off due to inadequate grid capacity.

On the other hand, railways are what we need more of. Sooner not later. And run for the passengers, not for funneling public money to private companies (or the national rail of other countries). Small local railways that connect real workers with their jobs. With frequent trains.
