RT @catherinerowett: @trussliz @MailOnline What's the source of the energy trouble, then? Tory governments that preferred to burn fossil fuels rather than insulate buildings or prepare for 100% renewable energy? Privatisation to deliver stonking profits to shareholders? Low wages and poor housing?
Hmmm, fix it will you?

RT @AJS77: @AlastairMorgan @wildkippers Tories won with 43% of the national vote. But thanks to UK’s unbalanced political map and broken electoral system, the Tories won 56% of seats in the Commons + 80 seat majority.

@360Chambers @Redbil5 I think our conversation was about German railways and public ownership, rather than ethics. I was writing on that topic on the basis of my experience as a regular traveller on European trains.

@mdawese11 @jeff20337 @SaulStaniforth @carla_denyer Nuclear isn't clean, safe, nor zero carbon, nor is it the only way of providing continuity, much as you might wish it. Hydro, tidal, wave power and storage can do all that better and with less danger. Just look at Ukraine, and think about the chaotic strife torn future we face.

@360Chambers @Redbil5 Yes exactly. But they don't have great rail services. They have affordable railways but they are unreliable and run late. So you can't call them great. Of course they might be great here if they are properly run and funded but the German ones are not great.

@360Chambers @Redbil5 No I didn't misread. I was just observing that German railways aren't currently reliable. That's not because they're in state hands, of course. It's because railways need to be properly funded, in the same way as roads, and properly managed, in the same way as all infrastructure.

I wonder whether they'll manage to fix it? One thing's sure. We in the UK will still be out here in the cold.
And they're probably going to exchange one kind of dependence on another, because what was actually needed was to transition to local renewables twenty years ago.
