The myth of a high wage economy after Brexit is being replaced with a nightmare in which nothing works, jobs are unfilled, you can't see a doctor or get a passport, roads are full of cars going nowhere and the Tory govt. votes confidence in itself and goes AWOL. 6

There's no plan for degrowth, for climate action, for investment in energy efficiency or green industries, no schemes for training the skilled workers for green jobs that have a future. There's no money going to insulation or free public transport to get us off fossil fuels. 5

Taxes on ordinary workers are raised while the rich are rewarded for stealing from the public purse, and inequality has increased to unprecedented levels. Workers' pay is losing value by the day. Benefits are not enough to live on. They vote against feeding hungry children. 4

But let's be clear. Under the Tories (under Rishi Sunak & Liz Truss) none of these things are true.
Public spending is squandered on private sector profits and Tory donors and subsidies to dirty industries & road building, while public services are run into the ground. 3

Low unemployment would be a good thing if it were part of a thriving enterprise culture where everyone is engaged in worthwhile lifelong learning or creative activities and all vacancies in key sectors were filled. 2

Let's be clear:
Falling growth would be a good thing if it were part of a climate plan.
Rising taxes would be a good thing if it were to part of a plan to redress inequality and tax the rich.
High public spending would be a good thing if it were part of a just transition plan. 1

RT @catherinerowett: These Tory leader candidates and their chums will have Lord Trimble turning in his grave before the grass is grown over, I have no doubt.

RT @doctorpallavi: This. The is woefully short of staff, and this government is doing nothing about it. , lack of workforce planning, related sickness, excessive workloads, inadequate pay, all have contributed to this situation apple.news/AqWQLPXr_RjmJouhgcv

Either Labour has forgotten that traditional Labour policies are popular and won them huge numbers of members and votes when they last had them, or Labour has been taken over by an undercover Tory, to destroy it from within.
Only the Greens offer these things now.
RT @Thelma_DWalker: Why aren’t Labour backing nationalisation?

RT @BootstrapCook: Or how about just:
💷Pay people enough to thrive on
🏡Truly affordable housing and lifetime council leases
🤗Decent social & support services and generously funded welfare
🧠Invest in mental health support
🍽Affordable accessible good food
🩺Gold standard free healthcare for all

RT @ZackPolanski: Truss is harbouring dangerous right wing nonsense.

This frame that you can either invest in the planet or working people is total nonsense.

There's no jobs on a dead planet. We need to defend workers rights & enable people to move into greener jobs through a just transition.

Today I spoke to @standardnews about waste reduction > recycling.

🇺🇸 National Weather Service regularly recalculates a new "normal" based on the last ten years, so the baseline gets warmer. The terrifying emergency, and its acceleration, is concealed. No wonder the majority of Americans don't see the threat clearly.

RT @13sarahmurphy: Not to be upstaged by Sunak, Truss now promises ‘full-fat freeports’.
Wtf does ‘full-fat’ mean?
What in fact does ‘freeport’ mean?
She’d say ‘investment zones’ and hope for no follow-up questions.
They are hubs for tax-evasion, money laundering and worker exploitation…
