@andyheald @LNER Did the heating start working when you crossed the border into England?

@jonat5nu @CEIBois @ForestDefence Two separate issues here. First an individual wooden building can be carbon negative if it stores & substitutes more carbon than was emitted in its construction. Second only 3% of construction is currently timber hence we don't foresee a 100% figure hence an 'only 40% reduction'.

@jonat5nu @CEIBois The Commission President does have science backing her up in particular the Potsdam Institute of Climate Impact Research, see: https://www.pik-potsdam.de/en/news/latest-news/buildings-can-become-a-global-co2-sink-if-made-out-of-wood-instead-of-cement-and-steel

@kernowbeaver @JoeWStanley Plus, those on the lowest incomes need to have larger incomes so they can afford to pay the 'fair' price the farmer should receive. I still find it odd that the Red Tractor Mark doesn't include a fair price paid to farmers, in the way the Fair Trade Mark does re farmers abroad.

@jonat5nu @CEIBois Hence Commission President “building with timber could save up to 40% of carbon emissions in comparison to concrete.” Note: concrete responsible for 8% global carbon emissions. See https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/da/speech_22_7116

@jonat5nu @CEIBois I’d need to check but I think at a European level 20% wood ends up in the built environment storing carbon for 50yrs plus. The argument is to increase this %. Such use also substitutes for carbon intensive materials such as concrete & steel.
🐦🔗: https://nitter.eu/PaulBrannenNE/status/1596549614127419392
@jonat5nu @CEIBois It may appear counter intuitive but by logging you can store carbon in wood products in the built environment for 50yrs+ Meanwhile you replant the felled trees & sequestration begins again. Repeat = a growing carbon store in both forest & built environment.

RT @VincentStops: Just visited what should surely be a Stirling Prize contender. @WaughThistleton’s Black and White office building in Shoreditch is absolutely fantastic. Negative carbon and built from 100% renewable engineered timber. The very best thing to support sustainable forestry.

RT @WOWF_Live: Recovered wood has the potential for reuse in the manufacture of new products extending the time the carbon is stored. Now is time for timber. Read the document here. #WOWF #forest #sustainable #environment https://worldofwoodfestival.org/timefortimber/

Today's Into the Woods event near Helsinki, Finland, led by the President of the Commission whose comments included "We need to do more to promote the use of long-lived biomaterials, like quality wood for construction." https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/SPEECH_22_7116 @Wood4Bauhaus

An impressive line of speakers today in Helsinki. Commission President clear "We all know that today building with timber could save up to 40% of carbon emissions in comparison to concrete. By keeping the carbon inside the wood..turn our cities ..into carbon sinks."@Wood4Bauhaus

Prof Schellnhuber draws attention to the predicted 2billion growth in the world’s population. Where are they all going to live? If they live in new concrete & steel buildings that will blow the remaining carbon budget. What is the green NGO response?

@SustainableTall Canadian’s at Port Stanley did it last year but good to see none the less. It helps make the point that engineered timber is a perfectly safe building material.
