We are in the midst of a climate crisis. Ireland's GHG emissions per head of population even higher than the UK's. No tree absorbs CO2 faster than the Sitka spruce = good. And the red squirrel's last bastion in England is the Sitka spruce at Kielder Forest

RT by @PaulBrannenNE: I always hear about a “rush of tree planting” and I would love to know what people are talking about.

Have you ever tried getting woodland creation grants in England or Wales? Blood from a stone would be easier.

We’ve never hit our national targets.

Q. What to build more sustainably?
A. Use less concrete.
For example, building without a concrete basement can reduce the carbon footprint of a building by 50%.

A first. I’ve been travelling up and down the east coast main line for over 40 years and I have never heard the guard announce at Kings Cross “This train is too full and is going nowhere until some of you get off”! Thankfully some good souls got off.

Melbourne, Australia has the possibility for 50 build on top - vertical extensions - in mass timber. Extending the life span of existing office buildings but with new residential flats on top. One such extension has turned every dollar spent into a 3 dollar value increase.

Which could store more carbon? Building more with wood or insulating more with wood fibre? I’d guess the potential insulation market is the bigger market. Discuss. But the two together is colossal & what we should aim for
