Is the new Google building in London better than what it has replaced, Culross Buildings? My old flat as it happens, which starred in Nuns on the Run.
@willjennings80
RT @willjennings80: It's pretty unremarkable. Remind me how it's meant to be groundbreaking, is it just because it's long?

@willjennings80 Which is bigger, its physical size or the amount of its embodied carbon?

This mass-timber building stores carbon = good for climate. It's also designed to be dismantlable & can be disassembled rather than demolished at the end of its life with its materials reused extending the life of the stored carbon. @CEIBois @SimonKay20

RT @samdknowlton: A polyculture of wheat grown with walnut trees produces ~ 40% higher yields.

1 hectare of wheat/walnut mix yields the same as 1.4 hectares of each crop grown separately.

This is an example of overyielding.

@heatpolicyrich To complicate matters further there’s the issue of what the materials used to insulate are made from. Many have high levels of embodied carbon while others are much lower & store carbon ie nature based materials. Need to avoid robbing Peter to pay Paul.

@ROCKWOOLGroup are you still supplying your products to Russia? This is a comment made in the trail below but I realise it might not be true. Can you clarify?
RT @ROCKWOOLGroup: As a leader in the global sustainability transition, ROCKWOOL is honoured to be recognised by @corporateknight as #1 most sustainable building products company in the world.

@ForestDefence @CEIBois @fionaharvey @Wood4Bauhaus JCR are not saying HWPs don't store carbon & hence not needed, rather they are saying it doesn't solve the whole problem, agree. We need to reverse the decline in the forest sink AND store carbon long term in wood products in the built environment. It's never either/or, it's both

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/PaulBrannenNE

@ForestDefence @CEIBois @fionaharvey @Wood4Bauhaus The same JCR report "Part of this extra increment could also increase the potential for carbon storage in HWPs & for material substitution. A shift towards greater use of wood products with longer service lives &substitution benefits can enhance climate change mitigation benefit"

@ShaunSpiers1 @GreenAllianceUK @Ben_Raskin @Farm3Dwithtrees @hanslope @agroforestrynw @agricology @ianedwardbrown @EnergyCropsUK @farmingGeorge @AJPendleton @forestsandwood @LydiaCollas Thanks. Agree hard to cover everything in a short report but UK will need to produce a lot of biomass given we're currently the second biggest importer of timber in the world after China. We'd been keen to input to your construction report re storing carbon in homes @TimberDevUK

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/PaulBrannenNE

@ForestDefence @CEIBois @fionaharvey @Wood4Bauhaus Can you send the link to the full report please? Thanks

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/PaulBrannenNE

@GreenAllianceUK Why no mention of trees? We need wood fibre for the growing bioeconomy & more timber to decarbonise the built environment. Hence agroforestry on farms has a key role & it boosts biodiversity but you don't mention. Some farmland has to become commercial forest. @ShaunSpiers1

RT @FarrellCentre: The Farrell Centre – a new centre for architecture and cities in Newcastle, UK – will now be opening on Saturday 22 April 2023. We can’t wait to welcome you!

Stay tuned for info about our opening weekend and sign up to our e-newsletter at farrellcentre.org.uk/

RT @PEFC: that mass timber buildings are 25% faster to construct than concrete buildings? That's primarily because timber panels are prefabricated & assembled on site. This cuts down on project timelines and makes safer & quieter.

RT @flossiemboyd: Guess which one of these houses on my street is owner occupied and which is privately rented…

Tighter regulation on energy efficiency standards for private landlords would for renters and for the 🌍

RT @StopCambo: 🚨BREAKING: Keir Starmer has said there will be no new oil & gas fields under a Labour government.

This is a huge win and thanks to the work of thousands of you across the country.

Together we will and all new oil & gas.

Wood's ability to store carbon long term in the built environment recognised in a major new academic report.
