RT @DanielHewittITV: It’s hard to overstate how scared people are right now. Filming in North Tyneside today, the first 2 people I met - a shopkeeper of 30 years who said he may have to close, and a working 60 year old who can’t pay her energy bill - burst into tears when I asked how they’re coping.

@marju_silander @omakotiliitto @Hirsikoti @Sahateollisuus @RASI_yhdistys @PTTryfi This is a 2014 evaluation but little has changed since. Virtually all insulation materials used in Europe are manufactured directly or indirectly from fossil fuels. So while they do a green job they are not green materials. A shift to wood fibre is needed.

Building more with wood leads to multiple wins including storing more carbon safely & substituting for carbon emitting concrete & steel. Plus it’s a healthy sustainable material @Sahateollisuus @ForestIndustry @CEIBois https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-62798950

Upsetting and despite everything we are not a poor country so no justification for this.

RT @andyheald: To tackle the climate crisis, we will need a lot more timber & fibre.
That will mainly come from plantation forestry. 🌲
To tackle the nature crises, we need a lot more natural woodland. 🌳
It isn’t a choice between the two. 🤷🏽♀️

Building more with wood, thereby replacing CO2 generating concrete & steel, is key to decarbonising the built environment.
But, are there enough trees?
'Yes', says the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research see: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-022-32244-w

@JohnWad84222151 @bleating_lamb @1GarethWynJones @GeorgeMonbiot There's the built environment as well (houses, offices, factories, roads) & peatland & land where the focus is biodiversity & recreation. Some of these can overlap.

@everydayacoust1 @SteicoUK @europanels_EPF @asbp_uk @CEIBois @ArchitectsCAN Which is exactly the problem with LCAs as they are. The fact that the concrete industry is relaxed about LCAs tells you there is a problem with them. Hence talk of needing 'Whole Life Cycle Assessments'.

@everydayacoust1 @SteicoUK @europanels_EPF @asbp_uk @CEIBois @ArchitectsCAN Agree 'cradle to grave' but don't discount stored carbon simply because 'hard to measure'. @bleating_lamb @1GarethWynJones The common ground in Regenesis is @GeorgeMonbiot 's view that 'land use' is maybe the most important issue. The debatable part is how we use the land. Hence the UK needs a land use strategy & to date we don't have.

RT @GeorgeMonbiot: Putin's speech shows he lives in a hall of mirrors. Russia is not being attacked. Its attack on another nation has, to a remarkable extent, been repulsed. The attackers he has threatened to destroy with nuclear weapons live in his imagination. It's a very dangerous situation.
