A year has passed after the start of the Russian invasion of 🇺🇦

I debriefed the 🇪🇺 ministers at our informal meeting today about the progress we have made to overcome the gas crisis & to phase out dependency from Russian fossil fuels.

And we have achieved a lot!

Russia is no longer the first gas supplier for Europe, replaced by Norway & the US.

Our LNG imports have increased from 80 bcm in 2021 to 135 bcm in 2022.

At the same time our Member States have cut gas demand by 19% between August & January & our gas storage remains high.

My message to the Ministers was clear: our policies worked, but the test is not over.

There is still a long fight ahead of us.

Demand reduction must continue, and we should use all tools at our disposal to secure a cost-effective storage refilling for next winter.
