S&P is the fourth ratings agency in a row and the second one among those accepted by the ECB to grant Greece an investment grade status after 13 years. The S&P report itself is more than positive and quite clear, it makes good reading for those consistently questioning the results of the government’s economic policy.
The country has a historic window of opportunity in front of it, one that couples the right economic policy mix with political stability. It is our patriotic duty to take advantage of this opportunity and move ahead for the benefit of all Greeks, especially the weaker ones. As I underlined at the recent ECOFIN, Greece is and will remain committed to fiscally sound policies, whatever the outcome of the ongoing European Union negotiations on the new fiscal stability rules. Greece is implementing policies that form the only sound basis to maintain credibility with financial markets, attract investments and see sustainable growth.
