leads demonstrations against a law proposal of the Spanish parliament. The fact that he is the president of the PP in Belgium does not give him impunity for breaching, as a European official, the statute of EU officials.
Leading a protest against a parliamentary initiative of a parliament of a member state clearly interferes with its functions and is incompatible with the interests of the European Parliament. His position and the salary that European citizens pay him is supposed to serve, among other things, for “fostering cooperation and legislative dialogue with national parliaments by providing advice and expertise to political bodies, Members and administrative entities in Parliament. Among other functions, the DG provides support to inter-parliamentary activities and contributes to the implementation of relevant Treaty provisions”
The rule of law is threatened when there are officials who compromise the neutrality of their work. From the moment he takes an active position against a parliamentary initiative of a member state, this person is clearly NOT qualified to continue being responsible for relations with national parliaments. It is a mockery of the Parliament.
