RT by @HelgaTruepel: Sad night thoughts:
Somewhere in Gaza there’s a woman tonight who despises her government as much as I despise mine. Perhaps even more.
I’ll call her Amal.
Unlike me, Amal cannot, dare not, share her feelings with the world.
She has electricity, much of Gaza still does. She has a laptop or a smartphone. I hope she has a roof over her head and enough food. What she lacks is security, a future, and freedom to speak.
On 2007, upon winning the election, Hamas systematically killed over a thousand of its political opponents. Such executions have continued ever since.
After 7/10 a few brave or naive Gazans were caught on camera venting anger at Hamas. It was not a wise thing to do.
Amal knows better and keeps quiet. She may hate Israel, but she, like many others whom we can’t hear, is hoping for the downfall of Hamas.
Night. War. Explosions. Gunshots. Fear every way you look.
I stand with you, Amal. You may hate me, but you deserve a far better regime, first an emergency international presence and eventually a pragmatic Palestinian government.
I don’t know how old you are, but maybe we’ll both live to see the hatred subside.
Taabat laylatek.
