The government has renewed some members of the Constitutional Court: the president was state attorney general at the previous socialist government, a magistrate is the former justice minister and another magistrate has been director general in the Presidency of the Government.2/6

They have approved a reform of the Penal Code to remove the distinction between sexual abuse and sexual assault that has led, so far, to the reduction of sentences for 140 sex offenders and has resulted in the release of 20 of them. 3/6

They have reduced sentences for corruption. The reform of crime of embezzlement has been made without consensus and without the reports of the advisory bodies. It is estimated that more than 100 convicted embezzlement offenders will benefit from the new legislation. 5/6

Almost two years ago, they passed a law that prevents the Council of Judiciary from exercising its functions and powers until the renewal of its members takes place. Currently there are 72 vacancies unfilled in different Spanish courts. 19 of which in the Supreme Court. 6/6
