In our last Justice Monitoring Report, we saw that prosecutorial & judicial authorities undertook important measures to address crimes against journalists, incl.:
✅appointment of specialised prosecutors & judges
✅collection of statistics and
✅prioritisation of cases.

EULEX’s monitoring showed that in cases at the investigation stage, police & prosecution generally acted quickly upon receiving a report about an incident, which at times resulted in an indictment being filed shortly after the case had been reported to the police.

However, when a suspect was not identified at an early stage in the investigation, the cases were not prioritised. In addition, our monitoring showed that the sentences imposed in the verdicts EULEX examined were assessed as reasonable.
