However, member states enforce EU animal transport rules unevenly.
👉Over one third of these animal journeys last more than eight hours and welfare standards are not always upheld.

In 2017-2021, cross-border animal transport (both in terms of number of animals and weight) consisted of:
🇪🇺 86 % intra-EU movements
🌍13.5 % exports outside the EU

In terms of duration, the majority of animal transport within the EU in 2017-2021 was comprised of:

◽️Long journeys (33 %)
◽️Very long journeys (4 %)
Poultry are usually transported on short journeys while horses tend to travel longer journeys.
