Excellent conference today at @uni_nke Budapest on the occasion of #EuropeDay, it's important to re-emphasise that the EU must become also a cultural community. This will determine whether the EU project can be maintained in the long term, whether we can defend its achievements.

Even today, 19 years after our accession to the #EU, I still often hear that #Hungary is a new Member State. After nearly 2 decades, it is time for other MSs to see us as equal partners. We have to strive for true consensus instead of a constrain for permanent alignment.

A peace treaty can only last if we organise a system around it. The main success of the #EU has been that it was able to create a lasting peace in Europe after the Second World War. We need to create #peace in Europe again in its entirety.
