What @TomTugendhat⁩ says here is true. Our tax burden is ruinous and unsustainable. But we can cut taxes only if we cut spending, and that means cutting the budgets that have surged most: health and social security. Will any politician admit as much? telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/06/1

Thirty years ago, my friend @JamesNason told me that his life's work would be to buy back and restore this loveliest of houses. I told him that mine would be to recover our independence from the EU. By an odd coincidence, the two things happened within a day of each other.

Where does this leave all those Western apologists who argued that it was all about NATO enlargement? Are they still going to keep up the pretence now that Putin has dropped it?
RT @TadeuszGiczan: Wow, Putin basically just stopped pretending: "During the war with Sweden, Peter the Great didn't conquer anything, he took back what had always belonged to us, even though all of Europe recognised it as Sweden's. It seems now it's our …

Is it any wonder that Joe Biden regards the Belfast Agreement as his concern when British politicians keep falsely claiming that the US is a co-guarantor?
RT @peterkyle: The United States is co-guarantor of the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement and a great ally.

For @Keir_Starmer and I it was important to meet Consul General Paul Narain to discuss protocol and legacy concerns and reiterate Labour’s commitment to the letter and spiri…

RT @visegrad24: BREAKING:

Germany has blocked Spain’s plans on sending dozens of Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine.

According to Der Spiegel, the Scholz government warned Spain that it would constitute a departure from an alleged informal decision by the West not to provide Western tanks to 🇺🇦.

Plus a major expansion of Lithuania.
RT @MatasMaldeikis: If Russia revokes her 1991 recognition of Lithuania's independence, Lithuania will revoke the 1634 Treaty of Polyanovka and demand that Putin submits to the authority of Władysław IV and returns all occupied territories to the Grand Duchy. Smolensk is Lithuania!

@StoicPolitix @stellacreasy @DominicGrieve1 I suppose Stella means that she got some of the undecideds. This was the result.

Is it really up to ministers to ensure that we build "affordable homes"? Basic business sense suggests that developers will want all their homes to be affordable. If what ministers mean is "cheaper homes", they should let more of them be built, and the price will drop naturally.

An ambassador from an EU state just told me that Britain is the last country whose civil service is still largely staying away from the office. Is this true?

I continue to favour CANZUK free movement - as do large majorities in each of the four countries. The main obstacle is the UK Home Office.
RT @JudithCollinsMP: Great to catch up with ⁦@DanielJHannan⁩. Plenty for a couple of free-traders to discuss.

Labour wanted a stricter lockdown, opposed every loosening of the restrictions and favours more eco-taxes. Yet it has the nerve to complain about inflation.

RT @tomhfh: The government is at risk of completely abandoning what could be the country’s single biggest driver of economic growth over the next decade.

I just enjoyed a civil and civilised debate on Brexit with @DominicGrieve1 & @stellacreasy in Camden. It was an away game, and my side lost (albeit with a swing in our favour). But I was most struck my the politeness; evidence that, away from Twitter, the anger is finally fading.

"Why do we have a tariff of 93p per kilo on Turkish olive oil?" asks Boris. "Why do we have a tariff on bananas?"

Why indeed? We left the EU two and a half years ago. What the bloody hell have we been hanging around for?

RT @nadhimzahawi: Exams are underway for the first time in two years. Over this period young people have shown incredible resilience.

It would be a crying shame if rail unions were to actively prevent some pupils from travelling to their exams later this month just to suit their political ends.
