According to the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), more than 85,000 hectares have burned there since the beginning of the summer.

On 28 August, Bolivian authorities reported 35,536 wildfire hotspots across their country, with more than 30,000 fires concentrated in the Santa Cruz region. The fires have produced a massive plume of smoke, leading to an orange alert for poor air quality.
