Today’s new Water Bill is a step forward but fails to fix the system. We need far stronger enforcement measures, more resources for regulators, measures to tackle pollution from farming & finally to bring water back into public hands -join the March to demand more!

RT by @CarolineLucas: The horror 7 years ago still lives with so many of us, and those directly affected will be finding today so hard. Everything failed them, especially a failure to listen and empower residents, and to live up to any public service ethos. I hope now justice for Grenfell is coming.💚

Cutting England’s

@UKLabour has to take this seriously and #StopTheCull now, not after we lose thousands more badgers.

RT by @CarolineLucas: Now on College Green - clear message on #BadgerCull - #StopTheCull. I and @TheGreenParty started campaigning against this in 2013. It was unscientific, inhumane and disastrous then. It still is, in nation with #biodiversity in freefall

After last Govt’s dire failure on renewable auctions, this is hugely welcome. Worth noting that while 5GW of offshore wind is significant, it’s still about half of what we need each year to meet Govt’s own 2030 target. And prices show renewables clearly cheapest new build tech👍

Greens have long called for suspension of arms exports to Israel so today’s announcement is a welcome & significant step, but leaves vital questions unanswered - eg why are so many licenses exempted? The justification for continuing to license eg F35s just doesn’t stand up

RT by @CarolineLucas: Enduring more economic pain and hardship isn’t what people voted for. They were told they were voting for change. Not voting for things to get worse before they get better. Labour needs to be honest about the fact that they could choose to make things better for everyone if they were bolder and braver.
What is being framed as tough choices is actually about political choices. People don’t need a constant reminder that the Tories broke Britain. They need a new approach, not misguided fiscal rules that are set to make things worse.
We must generate the funds needed for investment by shifting the burden away from the poorest onto the wealthiest. Labour’s refusal to tax the super-rich shows that business as usual is very much still in business.
Keir Starmer says the violent riots earlier this month exposed a deeply unhealthy society. But the health of a society can’t be improved if it is forced to swallow the same failed medicine. The government can choose to provide the investment our communities are crying out for. This would help create hope and unleash the goodness of people to improve their communities.
[2024-08-27 10:39 UTC]
RT by @CarolineLucas: Keir Starmer said wealth creation is a priority for his government.
But he's cut the Winter Fuel Allowance for vulnerable pensioners and refuses to tax the super-rich fairly.
Who are you trying to create wealth for Prime Minister?
[2024-08-27 09:59 UTC]
If Starmer’s serious about “rooting out 14 years of Tory rot”, it’ll take more than new management - the country is crying out for a new mindset too. For inspiration & hope. The last thing we need is more austerity - policies like wealth taxes mean we *can* invest in our future
