Read the words on the page and look at Commission impact assessment, p480. Ireland 's 2050 rewetting target is 116k hectares (ie half of 70% or 35% of total drained peatlands under agriculture, or 332k hectares). Let's end the disinformation and stop scaring farmers.

Why are @markey, @BillyKelleherEU, @LeoVaradkar and others scaremongering about Ireland's rewetting targets? Have they not read the text or do they not understand it? Would there be an EU election on the way?

The Council position would give Ireland a lesser target. Ireland argued for weaker target at Council (@greenparty_ie government minister allowed this to happened). Council target would mean a 2050 rewetting target for Ireland of 83k hectares, which Bord na Mona alone could meet

Irish media need to accurately report this. For the good of farmers and for the survival of this incredibly important piece of legislation @drivetimerte, @IrishTimes, @rtenews, @codohertynews, @SiCarswell @PatKennyNT @TodaywithClaire@, @AgrilandIreland, @farmersjournal

There is also a vast amount of domestic peat extraction land in Ireland. The 2015 Irish Peatland Strategy suggests its a massive 612k. This could also be a possible option to contribute to the agricultural target, if some such land holders were incentivised to rewet.

The Nature Restoration Law is in danger of being rejected. That would be a disaster. U can see clearly from the figures above there is no reason for Irish MEPs to vote against it based on peatland rewetting targets.
