1/7. Here is A Rubbish Thread…

Today I joined the Chelmsford “Litter Wombles” - a group of volunteers who regularly collect litter in Chelmsford. They have over 700 group followers.

📣‼️Some very big companies have been helping to make a very big mess…

2/7 I was shocked by the state of the bank outside the @bp_plc garage. It was covered in litter from the garage’s @marksandspencer shop 😱

We cleared up the bank, but huge companies like this should be so embarrassed. Please BP/M&S put in some bins and keep the area tidy!

3/7 … here are some of the 14 bags of rubbish we collected from outside @bp_plc and @marksandspencer - surely these big companies could do better! …

4/7. The car park at @sainsburys was a horrific mess.

I couldn’t see any litter bins in the car park - just one by the store door. So people buy a snack & then throw the wrappings behind the hedge.

Please put in some bins & keep your land clean! Other supermarkets do this…

5/7 … here are five HUGE bags of litter we collected from @sainsburys - mostly from the small grassed area between the store door & the bus stop.

To encourage people not to drop litter, I will be writing to the boss of Sainsbury’s and @ChelmsCouncil to ask for some bins…

6/7 …a particular nuisance are the blue plastic gloves handed out free at the @sainsburys garage. These blow all over the place, into hedges, up trees etc.

I know people appreciate a glove when pouring petrol but @sainsburys could you look at supplying biodegradable ones? …

7/7 … during our litter pick we also came across old road signs that have been abandoned in hedges, ditches & verges.

Local Wombles find & report these often, but they are rarely collected.

@essexhighways I will be writing to ask if you will help clear these up.
