Exited & thankful that my bill on labour migration has passed the @EP_Justice committee! 🕺💃🙌🏻🎶

We need to be more attractive to international talent & this bill can help! Thanks to @abir @domenec @lena @costas for all the work!

The bill regulates an EU visa you can get after some years working in the EU.

But it’s barely used!

That’s why I proposed a couple of improvements - which were backed by a large majority today 👇🏽

First, I proposed to make the application easier:

⏰ Allow to apply after 3 years instead of 5 in the EU!

🚧 Allow to cumulate years of residence across all EU countries

🇺🇦 Allow Ukrainians & seasonal workers to also apply!

🧾 Require evidence for only 1 year of stable income

Second, I proposed to unify our 27 labour markets into 1 EU for LTR visa holders:

🔖 Allow for full portability of the visa status across all EU countries

🤾‍♂️ Allow only for a job contract as requirement for mobility

💉 Forbid labour market or language tests to stop the move

Third, I proposed stronger rights in general, e.g.

🟰 If you can get a similar national visa, you can get the EU visa as well

👩‍👩‍👧‍👦 Strengthen family reunification rights &…

👩‍👧 rights of spouses & children to acquire their status

📥 Accelerate application timelines & safeguards

The next step is the negotiation w the 27 interior ministers, which I will lead.

I am excited to meet them & discuss their strategy on how to attract & retain international talent!

Thanks for reading 🙏🏼 if you want to help, please ask companies to sign openemployers.eu/mobility
