The @EP has just adopted the #DataAct, on which I am @RenewEurope shadow rapporteur. We voted for a data market model that is user-centric and protects trade secrets & for clear rules that will boost our SMEs & create a future competitive and thriving EU data economy.

We are creating a rigorous & robust mechanism for public authorities to obtain data in order to respond promptly & efficiently to public emergencies. For non-emergency cases, we chose to empower companies to share data through voluntary agreements and against fair remuneration.

Mandatory B2G requests would be allowed only when the data is locked-in, respecting the strict #security requirements and without placing additional burden on the private sector.

We are unbundling the contractual obligations between the manufacturer or vendor, who is selling the device & the data holder providing the service for the device. This better delineates the obligations towards the user and mirrors better reality of the data ecosystem.
