The @EP_Industry Committee adopted today the #DataAct, on which I am @RenewEurope shadow rapporteur.
We are one step closer to creating a fair EU data market🇪🇺 that will help our companies, especially SMEs to innovate & empower users to participate in the data economy.

1. By placing the user at the centre of the #dataeconomy, by giving them access to the data stemming from the use of the #IoT devices they own, allowing them to monetise non-personal data, and benefit from safeguards in data sharing agreements.

3. Through a rigorous and robust mechanism for public authorities to obtain data in order to respond promptly and efficiently to public emergencies.

4. Through unbundling of the contractual obligations between the manufacturer or vendor selling the device & the data holder providing the service for the device. This allows a better delineation of obligations towards the user & a better-mirrored reality of the data ecosystem.

In non-emergency cases we chose to empower companies to share data through voluntary agreements & against fair remuneration. Mandatory requests would be allowed only when data is locked-in respecting strict security requirements & without placing additional burdens on businesses.
